Melissa + Gaylon

"I have found the one whom my soul loves"

Song of Solomon 3:4

As a self-proclaimed sci-fi/fantasy geek, I felt right at home at Melissa & Gaylon's geek chic wedding at the historic Ashton Villa. I loved seeing all of the Harry Potter, LOTR, Doctor Who, and Star Wars references carefully placed throughout Melissa and Gaylon's decor and accessories.

Fun fact: I had a near-death experience at this wedding! It was a stormy day, but right after the ceremony the rain stopped for a little while and so we took advantage of this reprieve to have the family photos outside on the front porch. During the family portraits, a palm frond (which is basically a tree branch) broke free due to the wind and fell mere centimeters from me. I felt it barely brush my shoulder and the end of it fell on the very edge of my foot with a very loud crack! I was looking through the viewfinder of my camera at the time and I just remember seeing everyone's faces turn to immediate shock and alarm, and then everyone rushed at me to see if I was okay. I think that because I hadn't seen what happened, that I was the least shaken-up out of everyone else there who did see it! There's a picture of the palm frond on the ground in this blog in case you wanted to see it!

I love to interview my couples after their wedding to get their perspective of the day. Here are Melissa & Gaylon's responses:

What was your favorite moment from your wedding day?

Gaylon - "Seeing Melissa walking down the aisle."

Melissa - "Having our prayer time together before the ceremony. I got to see him, touch him and get a hug. I needed that moment to steady all my nerves."

When you look back on your wedding day, what do you remember most?

Gaylon - "Getting ready with the groomsmen. Seeing Melissa walk down the aisle. The anniversary dance. My best man Sterling's speech

Melissa - "The rain, lots of rain! but remembering it was Gaylon's favorite type of weather and I knew it made his wedding day perfect. Having my mom and best friend Ashley help me into my wedding dress. How beautiful I felt all day. Seeing Gaylon's reaction when he first saw me. Seeing all my hard work and Pinterest dreams come to life. Mother daughter dance. Anniversary dance- it was amazing to see how both our sets of parents were still dancing till almost the end. Our getaway car- all the balloons and confetti! Getting out of the car at our hotel we had several escape and float away. We still had balloons for weeks lol."

Describe what you felt when you saw your significant other for the first time on your wedding day.

Gaylon - "Joyful "

Melissa - "Felt overjoyed. Full of love. Seeing him steadied my nerves. Reminded me why we were getting married. Helped me get calm/relaxed."

What are you doing now? What is life like as a married couple?

Melissa - "I moved into Gaylon's apartment and have spent most of the summer making it into our home. Finally got all our wedding gifts unpacked and in use. We're learning how to live with each other 24/7 and how to manage our daily lives and finances together. There's been up and downs but it's worth waking up to your best friend and love of your life every morning."
